The Sunday Seven Vol. 6
Happy Sunday! Today I’ll be bbq-ing with the fam to celebrate the two year anniversary of my papa’s passing, and to say a farewell to my grandma, who is moving to Nevada… But before the poke, kal bi, cupcakes (and Heinekens), let’s play a little Sunday Seven :) See you tomorrow!
1. Who was the last person you talked to on IM
I’m not really an IM kinda gal; I’ve done it a handful of times, and FB-chatted a few times, too, but I prefer talking or texting! That being said, I honestly can’t remember that last person I IM’d with; Probably my bff Joelle or cousin Tiari.
2. Favorite non-alcoholic drink?
Plantation iced tea, ftw! It’s iced tea with pineapple juice, and it’s magical :)
3. What is your favorite perfume?
Michael Kors (by Michael Kors, of course!)
4. Last movie you saw on DVD?
Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium; It wasn’t amazing, but it sure was cute!
5. Favorite Color?
Right now? Gray. I also love blue in most shades (especially teal), and pink :)
6. Do you have freckles?
A few here and there.
7. Where did you last go on an airplane?
Kaua’i! PS: Go! Mokulele only charges $10 for the first bag.
I think you should play along, it’ll be fun! Copy/paste the list below, with your answers, into the comments, on your own blog (with a link in the comments so I can check it out!), or answer any of them on Twitter — Make sure you send it to me @sideculture (and follow me, if you aren’t already!) and put a #sundayseven hashtag so I can see your responses!

TGIF! I’m in for a fun weekend of football and bbq-ing, but before I head out for the weekend, here are some of my favorite links from around the interwebs :) Have a great weekend!
The Only Exception from Chris Hahn on Vimeo.
The Deadbeats from Ryan Miyamoto on Vimeo.
If you think that me allowing my son to be a female character for Halloween is somehow going to ‘make’ him gay then you are an idiot. Firstly, what a ridiculous concept. Secondly, if my son is gay, OK. I will love him no less. Thirdly, I am not worried that your son will grow up to be an actual ninja so back off.
I wanna know, what’s rocking your corner of the interwebs this week?
Xoxo,
Tiera
What’s in My (Retired) Bag
Even though parking in Waikiki was tough, lunch was expensive, and tourists were often sometimes less-than-pleasant, I loved my time working at Billabong. Aside from the lifelong friends I made and the spending money I had through high school, one of the best parts of working there was the generous discount :)
And that’s where (and how) I got this girl, my Von Zipper leather shoulder bag (one of my faves!). She was hiding in storage for a while, but I brought her out again recently, and have been rocking her everyday for months!
Sadly, though, she’s dying on me. There’s major wear and tear, especially on the straps, and every time I wear it I get stuck with little pieces of leather (or leatherette?) that flake off onto my arms and clothes.
So I decided it’s time to retire her… But before she’s gone for good, let’s take a peek inside :) (I love seeing these posts on other blogs, and this seems like the perfect time to share my take!).
- Wallet (Lulu)
- Nail polish (Dark Angel Nail Lacquer by MAC)
- Journal (Greenroom)
- Pens (G2s; I have to carry all three to color-coordinate my planner, lol!)
- Makeup bag (MAC)
- Sunglasses (Crush)
- Sunglasses case (Von Zipper)
- Prescription glasses (Sam’s Club!)
- Book (Eat, Pray Love; by Elizabeth Gilbert)
- Planner (Marukai)
- Camera (Sony); Case (Swiss Army)
- Misc: Ricola cough drops (I’m totally addicted, and not even coughing anymore!); Letter from Seattle, from my recently-married friend Tia; Invitation to Hi’i's baby luau (my hula sister’s daughter is so adorable!); Bobby pins (I always have these everywhere, and, quite frankly, am surprised I only found four in my purse!), and iPhone earphones (I always keep them around so I can listen to podcasts while I drive; My iPhone was plugged into the charger at the time!)
I wanna know, what bag are you rocking? And what’s inside?!
Xoxo,
Tiera
PS: Another one of my favorite things about my time at Billabong is meeting the team. Andy Iron straight rips, and he was such a rad guy. Hearing of his passing earlier this week brought back fond memories of the Billabong ohana. My condolences to his friends and family, especially his wife (who is hapai with their first child) and his hot-sauce brother, Bruce (too soon?). RIP AI!

Happy Monday! I’m actually really excited for this new week, it’s gonna be a busy one (as usual) but fun stuff on the horizon! Hope you had a lovely weekend, and that you enjoy today’s Mixplate Monday :)
Last Week’s Highlights
- Playing Mixplate Monday
- Shopping for Halloween supplies
- Making a barbeque chicken salad sandwich with ranch slaw (Deelish!)
- Running into friends and fam; Hi Aunty Chris, Aunty Rox, Tiari and Tiffany
- The Project Runway finale (Though this is more like a non-highlight)
- Sharing some of my fave links
- Getting inspired at the craft store :)
DreamingPlanning for the future <3
Weekend Happenings
- Downloading a new app, Instagram, for my iPhone; I’ve been seeing photos everywhere on Twitter lately, and as soon as I found it was free, I went for it!
- Getting called into a hula show at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikiki
- Playing The Sunday Seven (though that was more of a Monday morning kinda thing!)
- Not getting any trick-or-treaters at my house, or my mom’s house. Not-a-one!
- Watching The Amazing Race; I’m really getting into this show!
On the Agenda
- Writing for a few projects I have coming up
- Shopping online for the holidays
- Baking for this weekend’s family party at my mom’s, to celebrate both the two year anniversary of my Papa’s passing and that my grandma’s moving to the mainland, and I’m on dessert duty :)
As of Today
- Listening: To Scriptures Podcast: Book of Mormon; I’m no longer a practicing Mormon (I’m what is known as “inactive”, but recently I’ve felt a desire to begin studying LDS material again. I don’t know if/when I’ll ever return, or want to return, to the church, but for now this works :)
- Craving: Last night I bought almost-ready-to-eat pasta from Safeway (Roasted Chicken & Prosciutto Borsetti and Pesto sauce from their Select brand), and I’m dying to try it!
- Counting: Down the days until Christmas and New Year’s! Now that Halloween is over, I think I’m allowed :)
I wanna know, what were your highlights last week/weekend? And what are you up to today/this week?
Xoxo,
Tiera

Read More »The Sunday Seven Vol. 5
Yes, I’m fully aware that Sunday has come and gone (it was a holiday, and a very busy, weekend), but I couldn’t let another edition of The Sunday Seven slip by with it!
1. Where did you go on your first airplane ride?
Only a couple of weeks after I was born, I took a short plane ride to visit my grandparents on my mom’s side (who were living on the island of Maui at the time). Such a jetsetter ;)
2. Do you own anything from Hot Topic?
Just one, my Twilight DVD, lol! It came with a free poster (that I sill have, of course). HT doesn’t really fit with my personal aesthetic, but they’ve got some pretty cool accessories and music tees!
3. What states have you lived in?
Just one, beautiful Hawaii <3
4. Do you think you’ll be married in 10 years?
Probably not; I’m not really the marrying kind ;)
5. Where was your first sleepover?
Other than with family, I think it was at Starr and Shaney’s house. They were my hula sisters, and some of my very best friends, growing up, and I spent a lot of time with them and their lovely grandparents, Uncle Lawrence and Grandma Georgette (don’t ask my why I called one “Uncle” and the other one “Grandma”, lol!). I was hopelessly homesick, though, and sneaked into the living room to call my parents in the middle of the night haha! Eventually they became like another family for me, and it became routine to go home with them after hula on Friday nights, and not go home until after our next hula practice on Sunday afternoons.
6. What was your first broken bone?
I’ve never broken any bones, and never had a cast or anything. Not too rambunctious, I guess!
7. Sunrise or sunset?
Sunrise. There’s something kinda magical about seeing nature start its day :)
