New Year Challenges

Last new year’s, I set up some challenges for myself, which included saving money, living healthier, succeeding in school and developing a life plan.

Overall I’d call it a push. While I got my ass back to the gym and changed my eating habits (aside from cookies, those are here to stay!) and took a few steps toward fulfilling some long-term goals (including creating this very blog), I only completed one semester of school last year and saving money was tough (I did lose my job when my newspaper closed, after all).

And when I first started Side Culture in October, I listed some of my reasons for doing it, which are also some goals (becoming a better writer/ photographer/business woman, being more creative, and expanding my mind and horizons). And in three short months I think I’ve definitely made some progress.

But I’m ready to put 2010 behind me (SO ready!), and look forward to the year ahead! And while I flip-flopped back and forth about whether or not to set new year resolutions (they mess with my head sometimes :/), I decided that there are some things I want to challenge myself to do this year, and I wanted to put them in writing:

Personal

  • Complete The Great Aloha Run
  • Workout regularly
  • Take a vacation
  • Create more handmade accessories/wearables
  • Thrift/vintage shop more
  • Learn to sew. For realsies.
  • Learn to play guitar. For realsies.
  • Take an art class with the bff
  • Read 52 books
  • Eat out less; Cook more
  • Cut red meat out of my life
  • Host a party
  • Upgrade to a DSLR
  • Accept & love myself and my life <3

Professional

  • Write 10 guest posts
  • Create vlog posts
  • Advertise on other blogs
  • Write 365 posts
  • Introduce new features and columns
  • Add a blogroll for my favorite reads
  • Interview people who interest & inspire me
  • Increase readership
  • Develop 10 pillar articles
  • Start accepting makeup artist jobs again
  • Start an online shop

I wanna know, how did you do on your resolutions from last year? What are you challenging yourself to do in 2011?

Tiera

Happy New Year!

So it’s been 2011 for about a day-and-a-half now, and if I could spend time this year doing exactly what I’ve done so far (sleeping in, shooting Nerf guns with the little boys in the fam, vegging out on the internet, watching Netflix and UFC, listening to podcasts, and eating my mom’s cooking) I’ll be a happy little camper ;)

No, really though… 2010 was a mixed year. Lots of awesome stuff and lots of not-so-awesome stuff. And as we move in to 2011, I’m trying to reflect on 2010 objectively and plan for the year ahead. We’ll see how all of this turns out!

So here’s to 2011! If nothing else, my year got off to an amazing start with family, food and fireworks. And this flurry of text messages <3

  • Make 2011 ur bitch! Happy new years my loves!
  • Not quite there yet, but Happy New Year! May the new year be one of positive change, unconditional love and lots of good fortune… In every aspect of our lives 8)
  • Happy new year teeta!!!! Love you. Many blessings to you and your ohana this year.
  • Happy new year! Hope this new year brings you much joy, happiness and many blessings. Love you.
  • Hopefully you’re not too messed up to comprehend this message :P Jus kidding. 2011 ;)
  • Before it gets too late, or I get too drunk, I just wanted to wish you a happy new year!
  • Happy new year my loves, lots of good times in store for 2011! But for now let’s light these arials and get slizzard ;)

I wanna know how did you ring in the new year? What do you think 2011 has in store?

Xoxo,
Tiera
