There are some great ones out there, and so much great music comes from the world of film! Simple Pleasures
I read a great article on Tiny Buddha the other day: 10 Simple Tips to Live Happy, Wild, and Free.
In short, it was about pursuing simple pleasures like exercise, mindful eating and conversation, nature and sunshine, creativity, self-love, cold showers, and turning off the TV!
But the number one item was to write out a short list of the simple things that give you pleasure — So I thought I’d give it a try.
- Cuddles with Hua & Hinano
- A Disney movie
- Getting (or giving myself) and manicure & pedicure
- Trying out a new recipe, and feeding my family with it
- Reading a thrilling book
- Taking a beautiful photograph
- The smell of beautiful flowers
- Meditating in silence
- Food with friends
- Spending time with my nephews
- Crossing something off my to-do list
- Anything that can make me laugh out loud
- Exchanging I love yous with my parents
- Learning something new
- Singing out loud
I wanna know, what are some of the simple pleasures in your life?

Cookbook: Lately
It’s been ages since the last time I worked on a cookbook post :( And while I don’t have a specific recipe to share, here’s a look at some of the simple home cooking I’ve been whipping up in the kitchen lately.
- Lemon Shrimp over Caesar Salad
Part of a feast my cousins and I cooked up one night. We sauteed the shrimp in a butter and lemon and mixed romaine hearts, croutons and parmesan cheese with a creamy caesar dressing, then served the shrimp over the salad and squeezed fresh lemon over the whole thing. - Ahi Burgers over Arugula & Shiitake Mushroom Salad
Arugula is my new favorite green, and I made a salad with it and shiitake mushrooms and a ginger-miso dressing (I got it from Whole Foods, but I’ll try to come up with my own recipe soon!). The ahi burgers (which I did buy) were simple patties of ahi, onions, limu and breadcrumbs. - Beef Luau Stew
My mom and I helped my Uncle Zack make these while he taught us to use a pressure cooker. Luau is a Hawaiian dish that’s made with steamed luau leaves (the top of the kalo/taro plant, from which poi is made) and coconut milk. It’s often served with squid, but it’s also served with beef, like ours was. - Pork with Onions & Cabbage and Misoyaki Sauce
I started off browning pork chops and pork belly, sauteeing one onion, and adding in misoyaki sauce (mine was from a bottle, but most include miso, shoyu, sake, mirin and sugar). I braised Chinese cabbage in some chicken stock, then added it and some of the stock to the pork & onion mixture, and let everything finish cooking together for a few more minutes.
So simple, right?! Quick and easy things like this are really helping my achieve my goal of eating out less and cooking more :)
I wanna know, what have you been cooking lately? Got any recipes to share?
Cheers!

Mixplate Monday 6.27.11
I’m mentally preparing myself for yet another crazy week or work and a big surprise :) But first up is Mixplate Monday!
Last Week’s Highlights

- Posted some pictures of my pooches, H&H: Hua’s a Contradiction and Hinano’s Exhausted
- Changed my major
- Asked the question: How do you tweet?
- Did really good with my goal of not eating out — Only once in all my meals the whole week!
Weekend Happenings

- Got even more work done! I’m quite looking forward to the new freelancing opportunities that are hopefully in my future!
- Feasted on yet another poke bowl

- Hung out with my uncle, who was visiting us for the day
On the Agenda
- Several days of straight craziness at the office. It’s been non-stop events for days, and it’s not stopping for a while.
- Finishing up a few things — Like laundry and a book
- A super surprise something for this holiday weekend :)
As of Today
- Wearing: Body By Victoria perfume; I got a VS fragrance collection for Christmas, and it’s the first time I’m trying this one
- Wanting: To give myself a manicure
- Returning: A few pairs of shorts I bought last week that I’ve decided I could live without
I wanna know, what were your recent highlights? And what are you up to?
Cheers!
