Blue Bricks

One of my summer goals is to take more pictures. I have a really great camera (Two really great cameras, actually — and an iPhone), and I’m not making the most of it… So I was really excited when I saw Kelsey’s photo link up!

This week’s theme was brick, so I scooped up my camera and stopped at one of my favorite lunch places to grab some grub and take some photos of their bright blue brick walls.

Blue-Bricks-2

There are also a few brick buildings at a school near my house — But I didn’t want to be the creepy lady. Rolling up at an elementary school. In the middle of the day. With her camera. Lol! So maybe I’ll head over there this weekend to take a few pictures.

I wanna know, what kind of camera do you use? What do you like to photograph?

Xoxo,
Tiera

Losing Maka

On Monday, I lost my cousin, Maka. It had been a week since an unnecessary act of violence led to his injuries, and he had not been conscious since; It was his time. Truthfully, I wasn’t very close with him, but he was family, and being there at that moment in the hospital with them as they removed him from life support was emotional nonetheless.

Maka was a son, brother, cousin, nephew, uncle, friend, boyfriend and father — And he will always be those things to us. Beyond that, we find some comfort in knowing that he is living on not only in our hearts, but also through the three people whose lives were saved by accepting his organs.

For myself I am reminded of something I read on a greeting card once:

“Love, like the ocean, continues beyond the horizon… And life, like the sun, shines where we cannot see.”
-Unknown

And for my family I share:

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
-Psalm 34:18

Also, it’s been reported that alcohol was a factor in the brawl that occurred. Not to preach, but be mindful when you’re drinking, people. Don’t be stupid, and don’t let your friends or family make senseless decisions or get hurt.

Xoxo,
Tiera

Rest in love, Maka <3 Ke akua pū, a hui hou.

Hello & Goodbye: May-Jun

Holy cow, it’s June… I can’t believe we’re coming up on the halfway point of the year! I spent a lot of time with friends and family last month, and I’m looking forward to more of them, the summer sun and time with my puppies <3 But first things first, let's say hello & goodbye.

What a month it’s been:

  • Had some crazy thunder and lightning while celebrating a late Mother’s Day with my cousins (and awesome mamas) Tiari and Tiffy!
  • Said goodbye to April and hello to March
  • Tried and loved the new frozen strawberry lemonade at McDonald’s
  • Got my music on with last month’s Soundtrack; It must’ve been good, ’cause I exhausted my 40-hour Pandora limit!
  • Lunched with Khrystyne and Aunty Deb at Bravo’s
  • Saw the Lady Gaga/Monster Ball Tour special on HBO. Amazeballs!
  • Shared some of my favorite music from Country Strong
  • A night of yakitori chicken and sign painting with the bestie, prepping for our long but successful yard sale with the Perkins ohana :)
  • Sponsored Artichoke Designs
  • Made a slideshow+video of my nephew Brucey. He’s such a cutie!
  • Focused on my breath in the latest edition of Meditation Journal
  • Went do dinner at Big City Diner and watched Thor with Matt & Pono Girl
  • Listed some of the foods I just can’t stand!
  • Dinners (Big City Diner, Buca di Beppo, Honolulu Burger Co.) and movies (Thor, Fast Five, Bridesmaids, The Hangover: Part II) with friends
  • Wished everyone a happy Aloha Friday!
  • Spent time with family, watching surf and dirt bike videos with Uncle Alika, and international phone calls with Uncle David
  • Went to the ER after I ripped my toenail off, and missed Bodi’s graduation and helping Joelle pack for California because of it (PS: Kaiser was legit)
  • Pity food for my toe, corn chowder and luau stew, yummers!
  • Surprise visit from an old friend who just showed up at my house one day
  • Locked my keys in the car :( I had to kill over three hours til my mom was done at her bowling tournament and could bring me my spare!
  • Got a line on some cute doggies that were soon to be mine!
  • Yet another family BBQ (including Joelle, Jayson & Daniel via Skype), and Pono Girl brought my puppies!
  • Had a rough first night at home with the puppies (but I still love ‘em!)
  • Started a new book (High Crimes by Joseph Finder) and rented a few movies (Little Fockers, Morning Glory, How Do You Know, Machete)
  • And, as usual, played Mixtape Monday and shared a little Link Lovin’ <3

I’m looking forward to:

  • Celebrating my godson’s birthday — I can’t believe my handsome Tyxae is going to be 2!
  • My cousin Brandee’s graduation! Though I won’t be there (Have I mentioned how annoyed I am that my Vegas trip fell through? And all my family’s going without me?), I’m celebrating with her in spirit!
  • A reunion with my old co-workers from The Honolulu Advertiser sports department
  • Watching lots of Netflix and reading lots of books
  • Saving money for a couple of trips and a (possible) upcoming move!
  • Playdates, dog parks and cuddles with Hua & Hinano <3

I wanna know, what kind of month did you have in May? What are you looking forward to in June?

Cheers!
