16 Albums

I’m more of an album listener, not a song listener. Sure I’ve wasted a little bit of money in the past (I’m looking at you, T.I. And you, Selena Gomez.), but for the most part I like the entire album experience. Here’s a look at my newest albums. And while they’re not all new, they’re the newest to my ears.

  1. Ways & Means x The Green
  2. Kind of Blue x Miles Davis
  3. Nostalgia, Ultra x Frank Ocean
  4. Autobiography x Ashlee Simpson
  5. Revelation Pt. 1: The Root of Life x Stephen Marley
  6. Yours Truly x Sublime with Rome
  7. Wake Up! x John Legend & The Roots
  8. Watch The Throne x Jay-Z and Kanye West
  9. 4 x Beyonce
  10. Body Talk x Robyn
  11. Thursday x The Weekend
  12. Science & Faith x The Script
  13. Gold x Lynyrd Skynyrd
  14. Basher x Nick Lowe
  15. Greatest Hits 1970-2002 x Elton John
  16. The Greatest Hits x The Police

And a few notes:

  • I’m lucky enough to have known a couple of guys in The Green almost my whole life, and to sing with them with their old band. Their music is dope, you should buy it.
  • I have been steadily obsessed with “We All Try” by Frank Ocean for months now.
  • Liz tweeted about Ashley Simpson a couple weeks back, and it brought back a ton of memories from high school, when I first started driving, and working at Billabong. Her first album was my jam back in those days!
  • Stephen Marley’s “False Friends” is legit.
  • I’m pretty excited to possibly see Sublime with Rome in concert soon!
  • Gold was inspired by Matt Mitrione’s walkout music (“Simple Man”) at UFC 137

I wanna know, do you prefer to buy albums or songs? What new music have you purchased lately?

Cheers,
Tiera

No (Red) Meat November

I’ve been wanting to work on cutting red meat out of my diet for a while. And it’s high time I do something about it for goodness sake!

My family cooks and eats a lot of red meat, so I grew up eating it all the time and still eat it pretty regularly. While my love for all things poke has catapulted fish to the top of the list of “meats” I eat most, chicken and beef are probably tied for second place, with turkey and pork rounding out the countdown at third. And though I’ve gone a few months at a time without red meat in the past (or with very limited red meat; there are just some things my mom cooks I can’t bear to pass up!) I’m going to try it again for the month of November.

Cutting out or back on red meat can help lower your intake of saturated fat (yay!), but more importantly lower cholesterol and the risk of cardiovascular disease. High cholesterol and heart disease run in my family, and people of Hawaiian ancestry are at an especially high risk for both, so it’s important I do what I can to keep both of those things in check. Plus (and I admit this could possibly just be in my head) I tend to get an over-full feeling from eating red meat that I don’t get when eating fish or poultry. It’s like eating exhaustion, lameballs!

Anyhow, so that’s what I’m doing (or challenging myself not to do) this month. And if I happen to whip up any meatless deliciousness, I’ll be sure to share :)

I wanna know, what are you challenging yourself to do this month? Got any good no read meat recipes to share?

Wish me luck,
Tiera

I Hate Being Sick

I hate being sick. Hate it!

The past day or so really sucked balls. I started out with a sore stomach, then a blinding headache — And it all went downhill from there :( I was tired, had no energy, no appetite, and was slow and unsteady on my feet. Instead of taking a lunch break yesterday, I took a short nap in my car, hoping it would help my catch my second wind. Instead it only reinforced how crappy I was feeling. I had a couple of things I wanted to get done, and then I got outta there a couple of hours early.

I stopped at 7-11 to get OJ on the way home, took a cold shower, and slept for hours. My body couldn’t decide whether it was hot or cold, and I couldn’t get comfortable to save my life! I took another cold shower, tried to stay awake through The Sing-Off, and when I woke up again it was Tuesday morning.

I wasn’t quite 100%, so I decided to take the day off. Not a good way to start the new month! By the early afternoon I had enough energy to head to the grocery store to buy more orange juice and tried to eat something. It’s the early evening now, and I’m feeling much better. Looking forward to a normal day tomorrow :)

I wanna know, when was the last time you were sick? What did you do to feel better?

Xoxo,
Tiera
