Wedding Wahine: Introduction & Reality TV
Simply put, I am obsessed weddings (though marriage quite frightens me). Yes, my love of weddings is in direct relation to my absolute love for cake, but I digress.
I never cared about my own wedding, or ever having one, but I gathered my inspiration and ideas into scrapbooks and notebooks — Hoping I could one day use them in my dream job as a wedding planner.
And while I do currently work for an event planning and production company, we don’t consider ourselves “wedding coordinators” (nor does my personal aesthetic mirror that of my company’s), which means I’ve still got all this stuff swimming around in my head!
So here we are again with a brand new column: Wedding Wahine, where every month I’ll use the blog as my outlet for all things bridal :)
First up: Weddings & Reality TV
Whose Wedding is it Anyway?
The show that started my wedding TV obsession! It follows different couples and planners/coordinators from around the country as they pull together some seriously amazing weddings!
I love that each show is so different: Different couples, planners, locations, themes/styles, budgets, cultures/customs… And I especially love James, he’s my favorite planner to watch! Donnie is just about as entertaining, and Linnyette has done some wonders with small budgets.
Here’s a clip from a hilarious surprise proposal that was featured on the show.
*Note: It’s funny now, but I would not have been pleased if I was this girl!
Rich Bride Poor Bride
A show that actually focuses on one of the most practical yet least glamorous aspects of a wedding: the budget.
The bride and groom give their budget to their wedding planner (without the audience seeing), and the planner tries to help them plan their wedding while keeping the budget in check.
By the end of the episode, you’re sure to have seen disagreements, sneaky purchases behind fiancee’s backs, and, finally, the original budget and actual cost of the wedding.
Here’s a clip from last week’s episode, where the couple tried to skimp on every little detail (including barely feeding their poor guests!).

My Fair Wedding with David Tutera
DT is totally an event planning legend (if there is such a thing)! He made his name working with celebs, and his way into my life through various TV appearances (I think I first saw him on talk shows in high school). Can you believe that this guy started his own event planning company when he was just 19?!
More recently, he’s been working on his own show, My Fair Wedding with David Tutera. He swoops in a few weeks before a wedding, meets the bride and groom, gets the basics of what they’ve got going on so far, and then just goes off!
Most of the brides on the show have some pretty crazy ideas; David really helps them reign it in and elevate their ideas into an elegant wedding, with lots of inspiration from their original vision.
I also love that the brides and grooms really seem to be nice, genuine people. They’re always so appreciative of the show and David — Not like those crazies on Bridezillas (Seriously, I CANNOT watch that show, it makes me sick).
Here’s a preview for this weekend’s new episode!
I wanna know, what do you think of weddings? And weddings on TV?
Xoxo,
Tiera

My darling cousin Tiffany is expecting a baby boy (baby Bruce is his nickname), and we’re planning a tea party (well, our version of a tea party) to celebrate! We’re going for an elegant, outdoor, nature-inspired, modern tea party. I know, I know, it sounds a little convoluted, but it’s all coming together in my head, lol!
For decor we’re looking to make some paper poms to hang from the trees and use the Urban Outfitters owl banks or Moroccan lanterns for centerpieces. I also thought the tree stump card box was such a cute and clever idea, and fits so well with the owl theme, I’m just not quite sure how to pull it off!
I’ve been bookmarking recipes for finger food-style appetizers to make, and we’re planning on offering a few choices of tea sandwiches and salads (and her grandma’s homemade bakalau salad, of course!). And for dessert she wants chocolate-dipped marshmallows and other sweets. No cupcakes :(
For the twist, instead of serving hot tea, we’re creating an iced tea bar! We’ll have black tea set out in some clear samovars and flavorings (like raspberry and strawberry syrup, lemonade, and pineapple juice) in pumps and carafes for customization. Cute, huh?!
And as favors, we’re looking at customizing tea bags — And she even wants to give out condoms so no one else gets pregnant, lmao! Love her!
We’ve still got lots to do, but with a couple of months until the shower, there’s lots of time to work it out. But you know me and my theme parties, I just couldn’t resist diving in head first!
I wanna know, what do you think about the plans for Tiffany’s baby shower? Got any ideas to share?
