The other weekend I finally watched Country Strong. You know, the one where Gwyneth Paltrow plays the country music superstar sprung from rehab by her husband and manager (Tim McGraw), and hits the road with two up-and-comers (Garrett Hedlund and Leighton Meester).
I was so excited to see the film when it first came out (I’m definitely a country music kinda girl), but a good friend of mine didn’t like it, so I decided to wait until it came on DVD. It seemed like I was waiting forever, so when I saw that it was finally available at Redbox, I pounced!
The film was pretty amazeballs. It had an intriguing love triangle (square?), a bit of a twist ending that I didn’t really see coming, and truly great music!
A Fighter; Kelly (Paltrow) never got to really sing this song in the movie, and it’s a shame. It’s a very inspiring message, and the steel guitar is classic.
Chances Are; Beau (Hedlund) totally shows off his chops in this one, I think. He has this great raspy tone, and when he hits those bass notes… <3
Coming Home; I could do without all the strings but, again, I love the lyrics and the melody is solid with a few unexpected twists. Paltrow’s voice sounds legit, and it’s totally a song I think everyone can relate to. PS: I’ve totally belted this one in the car more than a few times haha!
Country Strong; This song was in the trailer, so I loved it even before the movie came out! This could’ve been a country hit today.
Give In To Me; The first time I heard this song, I wasn’t too impressed. But when I heard it in the film, I totally started crushing on it. The line “I’m gonna chase the hurt” really sticks out for me. And when Beau nods his head on the “Come on”… I mean, come on!
Hide Me Babe; Another song that didn’t get too much attention in the film, but was awesome nonetheless!
Shake That Thing; This was just the cutest song! And I like that they went all out with the choreography and everything :)
Silver Wings; This is one of my favorite Merle Haggard songs, and Garrett Hedlund absolutely did it justice!
Timing Is Everything; Give Into Me kinda took all the glory for this movie, but Timing Is Everything is my personal fave. I love everything about it, from the lyrics and message, to Garrett’s vocals, to the way it was written (in the film).
I wanna know, what movie have you seen lately? What’s your favorite movie soundtrack?
Xoxo,
Tiera

Not a big fun of Country music myself, but the film sounds intriguing.
Will definitely make a point of watching soon…
Fresh by Imogen // Couldn’t have said it better myself…
